#ThisVerseFitz relating to modern time and modern concerns.
On this sixth Sunday of 2025, February 9, we remain in the Old Testament and enter the book of Genesis! This book has the most chapters (50) of the ones we’ve reviewed up to now. This is the first book of the bible and it details the creation of the earth, firmament, heaven (expanse), waters above, waters below, stars, lights, the sun and moon above the earth, the pillars, the fish, birds, all animals, man and woman. The main accomplishment for the characters in each story is to be blessed with many descendants. Most stories also provide lists of the descendants names. These lists could help in making many “God search in Word” puzzles.
The details begin explaining the True Earth (A) in Genesis 1:1-31 – “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. And God said “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. And God made the two great lights-the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night-and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let the birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. and God blessed them saying, “be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on earth. And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. And God said, “Let the earth bring forward living creatures according to their kinds-livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. The Seventh Day, God Rests.
True Earth
Genesis continues into the well known story of Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden, the forbidden “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” and the serpent who convinces Eve to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree in chapters 2 – 3. The sin of eating the fruit is said to be the reason all humans are born in sin.
Adam and Eve
In chapter 4, another popular bible story is the story of Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain, “a worker of the ground”, a farmer. And Abel, “a keeper of the sheep”, a shepherd. The animosity towards Abel from Cain began as a result of their offerings to God. In these times it was a tradition to offer up livestock to God to show appreciation for the gifts received from God in life. Cain was said to have offered up scraps that he came across during his farming and was not as appreciated as much as Abel’s offering to God. Abel’s offering was the first born of his flock. Since Cain felt that his offering was not appreciated as much, his jealousy led him to bring Abel into the field and kill him. After killing him, The Lord asked Cain where Abel was, and that is where the term, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” originated (Genesis 4:9). Cain’s punishment from God for the murder of Abel was for Cain to wander the earth shunned.
The story of offerings “fitz” in modern times regarding a story of a lost pet. During Christmas 2024, there was a family with two dogs. They loved these dogs immensely. The first we will call “Ginger” and she passed away towards the end of November after a long and painful illness. This can be considered an offering to the Lord after instilling years of love, care and trust into a beautiful animal knowing at some point it will be sent to spend eternity with God and loved ones. The second dog we will call “Darla” and was the closest friend to Ginger. Darla was not battling an illness and was suddenly taken a month after Ginger. Years prior, a loved one, we will call Gail, visited with these beautiful dogs and had a special bond with Darla. Gail returned home to Jesus many years earlier. The day Darla was taken home to The Lord was on Gail’s birthday. The dogs owners took this as a sign of Darla being offered to God through Gail as the ultimate birthday gift. The offerings through killings of animals in biblical times seems disturbing and heartless. Viewing the passings of pets in modern times as offerings can help in the grieving process during such a loss.
Now, it has been said time and time again that God does not make mistakes. Chapter 6 puts that statement to the test. Throughout the early chapters of Genesis, we hear amazing stories and many grueling events. Prior to the story of Noah’s Ark, we read about debauchery and sin. We even hear about the women so beautiful they are taken by the “Nephilim”, these were said to be mighty sons of God who bore children with the most attractive of the women. Genesis 6:4 – “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.” The book goes on to say that the Lord regretted that he made man on earth. Is this regret a mistake? This is where God chooses Noah to repopulate the earth after the flood that cleans out all of the regrets.
One of the most popular Bible characters is Abraham who was originally named Abram. His wife’s name was Sarah who was originally named Sarai. In chapter 17 the couple is given these new names and promised a child who will be named Isaac. The story of Abraham and Isaac is told in chapter 22. Prior to that, Abraham is made aware of Sodom and Gomorrah in chapter 18, the vile and disgusting towns. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah “fitz” very much in modern times. These were the towns of evilness and debauchery that are like a biblical version of Hollywood and Epstein Island. These towns were destroyed by God due the grotesque activities that took place. God vowed to destroy the towns and Abraham questioned if he would spare them if he could find at least 10 good people there. Abraham’s Nephew Lot lived there with his wife, daughters and son in-laws. In chapter 19, Lot was greeted by the two angels that were assigned the task of destroying the evil towns. 2 extremely disturbing events take place regarding Lot in this chapter. The first is when some of the evil residents come and ask Lot to give up the angels in order for the locals to rape and have their way with them. Lot asks them not to, and actually offers up his daughters to them instead. This is just prior to Lot and his family fleeing the towns. As they flee, the Angels instruct them not to look back or they will turn to salt. Lot’s wife did not heed that warning and was turned to salt. Lot, his daughters and the angels continued fleeing without her and made it to another nearby town after God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. The second extremely disturbing event at the end of this chapter is both of Lot’s daughters getting him drunk two nights in a row in order for each of them to sleep with him to become impregnated. They each have a son as a result of this.
Sodom
Gomorrah
Genesis has some of the most amazing Bible stories told. The story of how Abraham brings his son Isaac to the mountain to be sacrificed to God takes place in chapter 22. Abraham’s faith goes through the ultimate test when he is ready to sacrifice his son before the sacrificial lamb shows up.
And later in chapter 25, the story of Isaac’s sons, Jacob and Esau begin. Prior to Isaac’s death, in 27, his son Jacob impersonates his brother Esau in order to steal his father’s blessing on Isaac’s deathbed.
One of the most memorable stories is that of Joseph, son of Jacob, in chapter 39. Joseph is given a special cloak or tunic (jacket) as a gift from his father. He shared dreams with his family about how one day he would be a ruler and they would all bow to him. Joseph is sold into slavery by his brothers because they are angered by his dreams that one day he will be a leader of many including his brothers. They decided to sell him instead of murder him and told Jacob he was killed by an animal. While traveling with his new owners, they decided to sell Joseph to a man named Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s guard. Joseph did a very fine job keeping Potiphar’s home in order until one day Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. Joseph was loyal and avoided the temptation which angered her. This “fitz” well in modern times since she then decided to falsely accuse him of raping her just as many do today when trying to remove a good man from a high position. These false allegations landed Joseph in to prison.
Potiphar’s wife
In prison, Joseph began successfully interpreting other prisoner’s dreams. Word of it spread to Pharaoh after Joseph was forgotten for two years in prison. Pharaoh eventually had Joseph interpret his dreams which led to Joseph becoming second in power to Pharaoh. While in command, Joseph’s brothers who previously sold him came to him, not knowing it was him, to ask for assistance with supplies. The story of Joseph comes full circle when they find out it is Joseph. Jacob is also reunited with his son before Jacob dies. It is a story of Faith, Forgiveness and Divine Providence.

God Search in Words – Print N Play
“God Search in Words” works exactly as a normal “Word Search” with a somewhat higher level of difficulty given the Biblical terms. Once all the words are found, the leftover letters repeat a phrase 7.18 times (meaning the phrase is present 7 times and 18 letters of the phrase are left over).
