ThisVerseFitz 13 – Exodus

by f ziamond | Mar 30, 2025

#ThisVerseFitz relating to modern time, modern concerns, BUSY WORK / The Roman Circus, warnings to change not heeded and The Ark of the Covenant.

On this thirteenth Sunday of 2025, March 30, we enter the book of Exodus, the story of Israel’s Exodus from Egypt.

Exodus 23:30 – “Little by littleI will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land.”

The family of Israel had increased greatly in Egypt. When a new King (Pharaoh) arose, he was threatened by the accomplishments of Joseph and the Israelites in Egypt. Exodus 1:9-10 – “And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.”

Pharaoh made the Israelites his slaves.

There are similarities to King Herod’s reign from the new testament where we noted in “ThisVerseFitz 10” – Matthew 2:16, where both Kings decided to kill all baby boys that showed a future threat to their land. Exodus 1:15-16 – “Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.”

One male child was born to a couple from the house of Levi. In fear, the couple wrapped their son in a basket and sent him floating in the Nile river in hopes that he would be found and taken care of by someone who was able to. The couple’s other child, a daughter, followed the basket down the river to see it was found by Pharaoh’s daughter.  Exodus 2:6 – ‘When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrew’s children.”

Pharaoh’s daughter would agree to adopt the baby after his birth mother did not need to nurse him any longer. Exodus 2:10 – “When the child grew older, she brought him to the Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.””

When Moses grew up, he witnessed a fight between an Egyptian and a Hebrew which ended by Moses murdering and burying the Egyptian. Due to the event, Moses fled Egypt to Midian in fear of being sentenced to death by Pharaoh. In Midian is where God’s will for Moses began. It is where Moses found “The Burning Bush”. Exodus 3:2-4 – “And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

The LORD let Moses know that he was aware of all the troubles for the Israelites in Egypt. He insisted that Moses confront Pharoah and bring “His People” out of slavery in Egypt. This is where the popular saying, “Let My People Go!” originated. Moses had his doubts on convincing the Egyptians that he was sent by God. Moses was given the promise of miracles including turning his walking stick into a snake to convince Pharaoh and the Egyptians. Exodus 4:2-5 – “The LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” And then he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it. “But the LORD said to Moses, “Put out your hand and catch it by the tail” – so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand.”

Moses also felt he was not eloquent enough to speak to Pharaoh and the LORD allowed him to bring his brother Aaron to speak clearly for him. This verse “fitz” personally since our Pastor is one of the most gifted speakers in God’s army and his name is Aaron also.

Moses and Aaron went back to Egypt to request that Pharaoh allow the Israelites to attend a three day journey into the wilderness for the LORD. If there ever were a verse that “fitz”, it would be in Exodus 5. Very similar to the creation of the Roman Circus, sporting events and the use of Corporate America to keep the minds occupied and truth hidden, Pharaoh had his “Taskmasters” and foremen do the same to the working slaves of their time. People are inundated with busy work to the point they do not have time for anything else. It consumes their day from waking up to going back to sleep. The design goes back further than most realize. And Pharaoh didn’t only pile the work on, he removed the tools and supplies in order to make the work impossible to complete. It occurred at this time in history to prevent the people from learning about God! Exodus 5:6-19 – “The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their foremen, “You shall no longer give the people straw to make bricks, as in the past let them go and gather straw for themselves. But the number of bricks that they made in the past you shall impose on them, you shall by no means reduce it, for they are idle. Therefore they cry, ‘Let us go and offer sacrifice to our God.’ Let heavier work be laid on the men that they may labor at it and pay no regard to lying words.” So the taskmasters and the foremen of the people went out and said to the people, “Thus says Pharaoh, ‘I will not give you straw, Go and get your straw yourselves wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced in the least.’ So the people were scattered throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw. The taskmasters were urgent, saying, “Complete your work, your daily task each day, as when there were straw.” And the foremen of the people of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten and were asked, “Why have you not done all your task of making bricks today and yesterday, as in the past?” Then the foremen of the people of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, “Why do you treat your servants like this? No straw is given to your servants, yet they say to us, ‘Make bricks!’ And behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.” But he said, “You are idle, that is why you say, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.’ Go now and work. No straw will be given to you, but you must still deliver the same number of bricks.” The foremen of the people of Israel saw that they were in trouble when they said, “You shall by no means reduce your number of bricks, your daily task each day.””

Keeping the minds distracted from the TRUTH / GOD

The scripture continually “fitz” with modern times as Pharaoh refuses to let God’s people go. He remains stubborn and ignores the warnings from the LORD. Pharaoh is shown time after time, with plague after plague, Pharaoh continuously disobeys and goes back on his word.

The First Plague, Water Turned to Blood in the Nile River – The Second Plague, Frogs (a fun cartoon of ours from a while prior quoting Exodus) – The Third Plague, Gnats – The Fourth Plague, Flies – The Fifth Plague, Egyptian Livestock Die – The Sixth Plague, Boils, sores – The Seventh Plague, Hail – The Eighth Plague, Locusts – The Ninth Plague, Darkness – A Final Plague Threatened to kill all the firstborns sons of all the Egyptian families.

Exodus, fun with the Plague of Frogs

The Final Plague is how “Passover” began. God’s people were instructed to cover their doors with lambs blood and the Angel of Death would PASS OVER their homes when coming to take the firstborn sons. Exodus 12:21-27 – “Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and select lambs for yourselves according to your clans, and kill the passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you. You shall observe this rite as a statute for you and your sons forever. And when you come to the land that the LORD will give you, as he promised, you shall keep this service. And when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of the LORD’s Passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared our houses.’” And the people bowed their heads and worshiped.

When God’s people were finally permitted by Pharaoh to leave Egypt, he once again went back on his word. Pharaoh sent his servants out to battle and retrieve them once again. This is what led to the parting of the Red Sea. As the Egyptians made their way to capture Moses and the Israelites, God had given Moses another miracle, Exodus 14:21-29 – “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided, And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. The Egyptians pursued and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen, And in the morning watch the LORD in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down on the Egyptian forces and threw the Egyptian forces into a panic, clogging their chariot wheels so that the drove heavily. And the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians.” Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen,” So Moses stretched his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal course when the morning appeared. And as the Egyptians fled into it, the LORD threw the Egyptians into the midst of the sea. The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them remained. But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

The “Song of Moses” or The “Song of the Sea” is captured in Exodus 15.

Exodus – Red Sea

Even after all that God showed his people, they continued to complain and quarrel about what they were going through. Their thirst was taking over. Moses told the LORD that the people would be ready to stone him if they didn’t have something to drink. That is when God gave Moses the miracle of the water from the rock.

Moses returns to Mount Sinai where God gives him the instructions and rules for his people. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS!

You shall have no other gods before Me.

You shall not make idols.

You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Honor your father and your mother.

You shall not murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You shall not covet.

Exodus 20:1-6 – “And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

Ten Commandments

THE ARK OF THE COVENANT – ThisVerseFitz in current times due to the swirling stories that the Ark of The Covenant that was reported to be lost for centuries, hasn’t actually been lost. This is a current story and hopefully the outcome will be joyous and the details shared – Exodus 25:10-16 – “They shall make an ark of acacia wood, ‘Two cubits and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. You shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and outside shall you overlay it, and you shall make on it a molding of gold around it, You shall cast four rings of gold for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. You shall make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. And you shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark by them. The poles shall remain in the rings of the ark; they shall not be taken from it. And you shall put into the ark the testimony that I shall give you.”

Someone may need to hear this, I did. Moses is chosen for leadership. The responsibility calls for determination, hard work and skill but overall, it requires FAITH. Moses could not do any of the tasks without Gods guidance. As a leader, everyone can lead their people out of something destructive if they lean into their FAITH! ThisVerseFitz

God Search in Words – Print N Play

“God Search in Words” works exactly as a normal “Word Search” with a somewhat higher level of difficulty given the Biblical terms. Once all the words are found, the leftover letters repeat a phrase 6.4 times (meaning the phrase is present 6 times and 4 letters of the phrase are left over). We call this the “AfterPuzzle”
