On this thirty ninth Sunday of 2025, September 28, we enter the Gospel According to Mark.
John the Baptist Prepares the Way.
Mark 1:1-3 – “The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.””
Jesus Begins His Ministry.
Mark 1:14-15 – “Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the Gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the Gospel.”
The list of decay hasn’t changed over the centuries.
Mark 7:20-23 – “And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.””
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ.
Mark 8:27-30 – “And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.”
Jesus Fortells His Death and Resurrection.
Mark 8:34-38 – “And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it, For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
Temptations to Sin. Relating to modern times as there is an abundance of crimes against children that should be addressed. A millstone is a way to address them. It is also mentioned in Matthew 18:6
Mark 9:42 – “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.”
Millstones
We are all here to serve.
Mark 10:45 – “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
A way to have all people strive for peace and righteousness.
Mark 13:10 – “And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.”
Following the Death of Jesus.
Mark 15:38-39 – “And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood facing him saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the SDon of god!”
The Resurrection. Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene approach the tomb of Jesus.
Mark 16:5-7 “And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.””
Malachi & Mark – Prepare the way of the LORD
