ThisVerseFitz relating to modern times, “Prophesies”, “Growing weary”, profits vs. prophets, calling evil good & good evil.

On this nineteenth Sunday of 2025, May 11, we enter the book of Isaiah. A collection of prophecies from the 8th century BC, with an emphasis on the coming of the Messiah.

This verse “Fitz” since it is quoted in some of our previous cartoons.

Isaiah 5:20 – “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!”

The book of Isaiah is famous for the possible prophesies of Jesus. These mainly take place in chapter 53, however, there is a very prominent mention in chapter 7.

Isaiah 7:10-14 – “The Sign of Immanuel – Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, “Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask and I will not put the LORD to the test.” And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you wear my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.””

As Isaiah is told by God to be aware of the people who refused the waters of Shiloah, he mentions how they use the term “conspiracy”. Current day the ignorant still parrot the term, followed by theory.

Isaiah 8:11-15 – “For the LORD spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: “Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the LORD of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.””

Additional prophetic mentions of Jesus come in chapter 9 in 11.

Isaiah 9:6-7 – “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.”

11:1-4 – “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall. Bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.”

The end of 52 into the entirety of 53 are said to be prophesies of the coming of Jesus:

Isaiah 52:13-15 – He Was Pierced for Our Transgressions – “Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted. As many were astonished at you – his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind – so shall he sprinkle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him; for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand.

Isaiah 53:1-12 – “Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our inequities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – every one – to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shears is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

It all seems to point to Jesus. Current day, Jesus is known as a peaceful and heroic savior put through the worst of the worst suffering. And in current day the additional levels of suffering are not always considered. Now Jesus is seen as the savior and that possibly reduces the ability to appreciate all aspects of the event in addition to the brutality, beating, torture of an innocent man. Prior to the painted visions of today, there was the ridicule, embarrassment and cruelty that Jesus also experienced. It was at a level which his own disciple’s claimed not to know him. If they realized the significance at the time, their response would most likely have been different.

And there is the famous verse in which Jesus is said to have quoted when going back to Nazareth and announcing that he is the Messiah. There is a scene portraying this in multiple story’s of Jesus’s life including “Jesus of Nazareth” and “The Chosen”.

Isaiah 61:1-2 – The Year of the LORD’S Favor – “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn.”

Notable verses:

In hopes of sickness no longer prevalent:

Isaiah 33:24 – “And no inhabitant will say, “I am sick”; the people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.”

Even those in their prime can experience defeat without faith in the LORD – it “Fitz” in today’s environment as all grow weary and are guided to a journey of faith:

Isaiah 40:30-32 – “Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 54:8 – “In overflowing anger for a moment I his my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you’” says the LORD, your Redeemer.”

Isaiah 54:17 – “No weapon that is fastened against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgement. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.”

Isaiah 58:11 – “And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”

Isaiah 59:1-2 – “Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your inequities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”

“God Search in Words” works exactly as a normal “Word Search” with a somewhat higher level of difficulty given the Biblical terms. Once all the words are found, the leftover letters repeat a phrase 8.6 times (meaning the phrase is present 8 times and 6 letters of the phrase are left over). We call this the “AfterPuzzle”.
